So, what happens when a detailed realism painter takes an animation class?

(Yes, everything (horse, mountains) is hand painted except for the snow in the foreground and the mist)

Animate a realistic painting for my final, I said. Do it in a week, I said. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, I ended up having to pull an all-nighter to finish all the painting, then spent the rest of the week locked in the art school's computer lab, animating in After Effects for 4-6 hours a day. I'm glad I took the film production class because it introduced me to this software. After Effects is pretty cool; it can import Photoshop files and then animate the different layers. That's what I did here; by linking layers and creating rotation points where the joints would be, I, in essence, created a digital puppet. The full-body horse is 17 different layers, most of the other parts are just one or two. (Featuring my OC Arix)
This could have been way more of a fun project if I'd had more time. As it were, it stopped being fun after the first few days.  If I ever decide to do something this ridiculously complicated for a tight deadline again, someone slap me. Sometimes I'm just too ambitious for my own good. :faint:

Critique not desired. I only had a week to work on this. Also, I know the mane/tail motion is really rough; it was the thing I did last and by then I was pretty burnt-out. Someday I will revisit this piece and draw more frames for the hair, but for now, enjoy as is.

Painted in Photoshop CS2, animated in After Effects CC, converted to Flash SWF for dA upload
