Everyone else was submitting wintry Christmas pics, but I'm not following the trend this year. Anyways, this was a painting that I started back in September and have been working on-and-off since then amidst my other projects. Once exams wrapped up I didn't have the time to start something new from scratch, so decided to finish this and have at least one more proper painting done in 2011. Things went fairly smoothly with this one. I was going for more of a painterly feel (as opposed to stark photo-realism) so I tried not to stress over the details too much. I did have a bit of trouble with the grain at first, but got the hang of it after a bit. Also, I'm not sure if it's obvious- but the big yellow blurry things in front of the horse are out-of-focus grains close to the viewer.

It's one of the most realistic drawings I've seen here on DA.
