First time drawing a shark. Painted this for the cover of my book Doom which I am in the process of publishing. The shark turned out great but I’m not completely satisfied with the background. I struggled with the water’s surface for some reason. Haven’t painted this kind of water freehand before. But I didn’t want to use a texture or spend ten more hours, so just decided to wing it.
While writing my book I came across a captivating shark photo on Flickr. I really liked the shark’s pose and expression, so once I finished my novel I contacted the photographer asking for permission to draw it for the cover. He agreed. And this painting is the result. And yes, great whites really do have blue eyes. They look black in most photos, but do an image search and you’ll see that close-ups reveal the true color.

I've also got an interest in drawing sharks, drawing them make them look sweet in a way ^^
